Financial markets opened this week with an attitude of risk taking prior to the New York Open, which has extended global equity indices and the US Dollar higher on the prospect of rising treasury yields and the emergence of the reflation narrative caused by massive stimulus projections. Most asset classes across the board were being bid, while the VIX was pointing lower, which induced more demand for stocks, commodities, ETFs, currencies, and surprisingly, cryptocurrencies. Today’s trading session was marked by a fairly thin economic docket, with very few catalysts outside of headlines about global vaccine rollouts and the pending agreement over the US Congress $1.9 trillion relief bill motivating market behavior.
During today’s trading webinar, we discussed the effect rising borrowing costs (yield) is having on the inflation story, and how rising asset prices will always attract cheap, easy money to support it. Not only did we discuss this week’s fundamental backdrop, but we also took the time to analyze price action in a few currency pairs to identify trade setups that were forming in real-time. Some of these pairs were the EUR/GBP, USD/ZAR, NZD/USD, & EUR/SEK that were poised for entry.
